Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival
Living in the Orlando-Kissimmee region, there is always something fun to do. Being so close to several major theme parks, their big venue events sometimes get the limelight, but there are a so many other events in our area that are worth checking out. I like to keep an eye out for fun, family friendly events that highlight some the amazing places, people, and activities we have available here in Central Florida. One such event is coming up right as spring begins, March 18th-20th. I am talking about the annual Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival.
Now in its 57th year, the Winter Park Sidewalk Arts festival is not only one of the longest running juried art festivals around, it has also been named the best in recent years by Sunshine Artist Magazine and Art Festival Calendar, two organizations that work hand in hand with promoting art and festivals across the country. Even Orlando Magazine saw the merits of this festival, hailing it as Central Florida’s best art fest two years running. Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival draws in over 1,000 artists vying for the coveted 225 booth spaces available to exhibit their work. Artists come from all over the world to be here and represent a variety of different fine art media. With over 350,000 visitors expected each year, this is truly one art festival you won’t want to miss.
Central Park and Park Avenue will come alive with incredible works of art. There are 2D and 3D categories, some of which include digital art, fiber, glass, jewelry, leatherwork, sculptures in clay, metal and wood, painting. and photography. Any art aficionado is sure to find something new to take home. Artists will not only have their work for sale, but they will be competing for their share of 63 awards totaling$72,500. The best in show winning piece is bought by the festival board and donated to the city of Winter Park, keeping art vibrant and alive in the community.
Like any great festival, there are also plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Kids can create their own masterpieces at the Children’s Workshop Village. Many local art centers and museums have come together to provide plenty of hands on activities including easel painting. The kids from Leon Theodore School will also showcase their amazing artistic abilities at a special exhibit at the festival. It wouldn’t be a festival without live music and entertainment. Local musicians and bands will fill the weekend with great performances. Add in some great food and drink choices and you have the makings of a great weekend for the whole family.
Winter Park is a great community that truly supports the arts and our future artists. If you want to learn more about this great town, I’d love to help you learn more.
