Labor Day and the entire month of September, in fact, bring out some of the best things to do in the Orlando area, some you may not be aware of.
There are many a football fan here and September 3rd is the start of the new season for UCF (University of Central Florida) Knights. Their kick off home game will be against FIU (Florida International University). We are all very excited for the new season as the Knights enter their third year in the American Athletic Conference. The game begins at 6:00 pm at the Brighthouse Network Stadium, located off Knights Victory Way right here in Orlando. This is a great way to get the family out for an early Labor Day celebration.
You can spend the entire month of September celebrating incredible food in Orlando with the annual Magical Dining Month, a showcase of the area’s best restaurants. Beginning September 1st, select businesses will offer a prix fixe dinner menu for just $33 per person so you can enjoy a night out and experience what food lovers already know about Orlando, that we have incredible culinary fare that will make any mouth water in anticipation. Each dinner during Magical Dining month will feature three courses, appetizer, main course and dessert. There is an incredible variety of cuisines available to choose from including American, Italian, Latin American, Caribbean, Japanese, Pacific Rim, Southern, French, Continental, and of course, plenty of seafood. Plan dinner out this Labor Day and celebrate great times with even better food.
Perhaps the most favored local Labor Day celebration in the Orlando area may be a surprise to many. Cocoa Beach is our closest beach and on Labor Day each year it becomes a surfing mecca with the annual NKF ProAm Surf Festival. Now in its 29th year, the festival not only a competition on a great surfing beach, it is also a fund raiser for the National Kidney Foundation of Florida. The festival runs all Labor Day weekend from September 4th – 7th and includes live music, a luau and surf movie viewing night. There is the Taste of Brevarde and a silent auction bringing some of the finest foods from Brevard Florida to the festival for another chance to help the cause. Between the various surfing competitions, there will also be a school of surfing open to the public at Cocoa Beach. Surfers or not, the whole family will have a blast at this amazing festival.
