Big Art Festival Comes to Small Town Mount Dora
We have a great variety of small towns and local traditions throughout Central Florida. Whatever type of recreation or events you may enjoy; you are bound to find something to excite the senses throughout the year. For art lovers, February marks one of the best loved events around. I am talking about the Mount Dora Art Festival, now in its 41st year. This incredible, juried art festival will be held in downtown Mount Dora on February 6th-7th, and is one local event not to be missed. Located less than an hour northwest of Orlando, Mount Dora is affectionately known as Festival City, as this charming town plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year. The Arts Festival is the first one of the season and wonderful way to kick start your year of family friendly events.
With over 150 booths you will find incredible art ranging from watercolor and oil paint to pottery and metal sculptures. Artists compete every year for top recognition and prizes, adding another exciting layer to the festival. You can see what the judges have to choose from to determine the winners. You may even end up with a piece from a winning artist. The caliber of the art that you will find at the Mount Dora Art Festival is easily measured by the number of people that attend. Over 250,000 people are expected to come through the booths over the course of the weekend. This is one of the region’s most anticipated events.
Like any festival there will be live entertainment and food on hand. From the festival food court to the eclectic mix of restaurants and cafes you will find in the streets of Mount Dora there are plenty of culinary options. Mount Dora is also known for its downtown antique shops and the huge antique mall on the outskirts of town, Renninger’s. Between all the amazing art and unique antique finds, the festival will make for an ideal weekend to add something creative to your home, or bring in that finishing touch to any room. While supplies last you can also get your own t-shirt or poster of this year’s Poster Art, a stunning piece painted by artist Tim Dardis.
If you are new to the Orlando-Kissimmee area, this is one event, and one town I highly recommend that you visit. Mount Dora is filled with New England Style architecture, and sits just above the shores of Lake Dora. There are beautiful parks in the area including Grantham Point Park, affectionately called Lighthouse Park as it is home to Florida’s only inland, freshwater lighthouse. Filled with small town charm, Mount Dora showcases the vibrant and diverse communities that make up Central Florida. The annual Arts Festival is a great way to experience Mount Dora for yourself.
